Once again I was asked to create Portraits at the Awards Banquet of the Professional Photographers of Canada Manitoba Region's annual Prairie Creative Photographic Conference that took place back in early November. Last years I chose the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada as my charity of choice. Myself, as well as many of my immediate family and friends have been effected by Crohn's Disease. This year I chose another charity that is very near and dear to my heart - animals! I decided that all proceeds from this fundraiser would be to D'arcy's Arc Animal Rescue Centre.
Once again it was an extremely hectic time as I had maybe 1.5 hours to photograph everyone who had wanted to have their portrait created. Next year I'm going to have to convince the Photographers Association to allot more time for this. Besides doing the charity portraits I also photographed the award winners (I was the "jury chair" in charge of the judges in Saskatoon the previous week and therefore I was not eligible to even enter never mind win anything) as well as I had to give a bit of a roast (along with with a fellow photographer friend of mine) to a mutual friend of ours who was receiving a special photographic designation that evening...so needless to say the evening was a busy one for me.
From start to finish this fundraiser probably took up at least 10-12 hours of my times. However it was for a very worth cause. Animals are such amazing creatures they bring joy to any family that is lucky enough to adopt them. I've been lucky enough to have had 5 different fur children over the years and every single one of them was rescued from a shelter. I strongly believe in the cause and appreciate everyone who help raise this money for D'Arcy's Arc. Far too many animals are in need of a loving home. It's places like this that give them the care they need unto they find their forever home and family.
If you would like to donate to D'Arcy's Arc follow the links to their website and please send them any amount you can afford. Animals bring us so much love and joy into our lives, let's help the ones that are still waiting for their future family.
